Not So Dumb After All
My oldest turned twenty-six a few days ago. He
asked his girlfriend of three years to marry him on New Year’s Day. We’ve talked a lot on the phone the last few
weeks. I called him to wish him a happy
birthday and asked him how he was doing.
“It’s
weird Dad. I’m getting married and I’ll be thirty in a few years. I’m not a kid anymore.”
“Yeah
and you’re thinking about what you want to be when you grow up, wondering about
being a husband, finding a better job to support a wife and how come you didn’t
plan on having more fun during your teen years?
“Yeah,
that’s it exactly. How did you know?”
I couldn’t help but laugh
out loud. Seems Dad isn’t so dumb after all.
It was a feeling I cherished for the rest of the day and most of the
next. After some reassurance, I told him that if he continued to seek God’s
will in his life, he would be just fine. “How can you know for sure?” Cause
I’ve been where you are, son. I know from
experience He can be trusted with your life.
As we move into a new
year, I wanted to remind us that God can be trusted with our futures. He’s already been there. Thank you for being involved in this
ministry.
