Daddy, Daddy
“Daddy. Daddy, look at me!”
We were on the Oregon Coast last week, enjoying a much-needed break and some time with our sons, who live there now. Fresh ocean air and some quiet time, mostly. We shared the beach with families who needed the break, as well, many with children who probably haven’t seen enough of their dad in the weeks previous to their vacation.
“Daddy, watch me.”
That really is the cry of our hearts, isn’t it? Daddy, watch me. Show me I’m important. Speaking as one who grew up with too many step-fathers in my life, at fifty three, I’m still seeking my father’s approval. And it still hurts when I don’t receive it.
Yet Paul tells me in Ephesians I have a Father who is over all, through all and in all. And His Son Jesus, my Lord and Savior, tells me He is preparing a place for me in His home and I can call his Father Daddy, too. And Zephaniah tells me he is rejoicing over me always.
So I guess Daddy is watching me, after all. I’m good with that. I pray you understand that as well today.
