A Season for Everything

July 7, 2011

I was up at 4:15 this morning to put my youngest son Daniel on a plane to Chicago for a job interview. His older brother Caleb started a new job in Oregon last Friday. My sons are growing into fine young men and I couldn’t be more proud of them. My beautiful wife Wanda turned 50 a couple of weeks ago. And for almost thirty years now, she stands beside me, a gift from God.

I think Solomon was feeling a little grumpy when he wrote Ecclesiastes. He was certainly an older man, since only someone who has suffered some understands there is an appointed time for everything and a time for every event under heaven. But in the midst of his lament he says that God has set eternity in our hearts and that seeing good in our labor is a gift from God.

So as my life moves on to another season and the empty nest looms on the horizon, I take comfort in the knowledge that everything God does will remain forever and that this is not my home.  He has set eternity in my heart and one day, soon …..

For 88.3 The Journey, I’m General Manager Mike Agee.
