Through the Mirror Dimly
My wife said something profound the other day. It happens all of the time, actually. We were flying, on our way home from an amazing vacation in Paris with friends. We spent the week going to museums and seeing some of the most famous works of art in human history. Yes, I know, I’m spoiled, too.
On the plane, we were talking about having seen photos of many of the paintings and sculptures we had seen. “But you have no idea how beautiful they are until you’re standing in front of the real thing.”
See?
Paul told the Corinthians “for now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I know fully, just as I also have been fully known.” 1 Cor. 13:12 NASB. In other words, we have no idea how beautiful it will be, until we’re standing in front of the real thing.
We find joy and happiness on occasion in life, but we should never forget, this is not our home. We were created for so much more and one day soon, I pray, we’ll stand in front of the real thing. “But now, abide in faith, hope and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Cor. 13: 13 NASB
