Manager’s Memo 4-29-21
Another school year is in the books for me. As I was going through my notes, I stumbled on notations from a trip I took pre-Covid with a few of my students to Maryland for a film festival. Of the six of them, one had never crossed the Texas border. Another had never boarded an airplane. Most had never been to the Washington DC area. Some had never been on a subway. Professors live for these moments.
We drove the rental to the closest DC Metro station on an afternoon off, boarded the subway and went downtown to the National Mall. Their faces when we walked by the White House, looked up at the Washington Monument, walked through the World War II memorial, past the Reflecting Pool, to look into Lincoln’s eyes and feel the wound in the Mall that is the Vietnam War memorial. We talked of memories and memorials, politics and media, nationalism and selfless service, ideals and our walk with God. It was good day.
It got me to thinking of the memorials raised in my own life, markers that remind me of what, and when, and who the Father has brought across my path, to alter it to His will instead of my own, like my own teachers and professors, relatives, friends, my wife. Perhaps I’m a little nostalgic as another school year wraps up and I send another group of my students into the future. Either way, let me encourage you to ponder your own memorials of God’s leading. It’s good to be on this walk with Him. And you.
For 88.3 The Journey, I’m General Manager Mike Agee.
