Manager’s Memo 4-15-22
Share your strength, not your attitude! Have you noticed that whenever we start something new, people who have been at it for awhile don’t give encouragement, they are more often saying things like “oh just you wait!… this or this and this will happen.” For example, if you’ve never been pregnant before, every day is a new adventure. Now that I’m in my second trimester, my normal Danae energy is back, things don’t smell as bad, I haven’t felt baby girl yet but most people keep saying “it’s hard to sleep now, hard to digest now… but just you wait! It gets worse!”
I probably try to one-up people with my stories too but why do we do this to each other? I don’t share this to be a Debbie-downer! But being on the receiving end got me thinking. What if we did something difference with our experience? What if we shared strength? Instead of “oh you think this is hard, just you wait. One time this happened to me …” Instead be like “Yeah it’s hard work and there are rough spots but you have such potential and you’re going to do great!” Make it about them, not about you!
The Christian band, Building 429, is based off Ephesians 4:29 “Let everything you say be good and helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may be an encouragement to those who listen.”
For 88.3 The Journey, I’m General Manager Danae Songy.
