Manager’s Memo 11-22-22
Dear Thanksgiving,
I know I’m not as grateful as I should be. There’s so much in my life that I don’t even notice until … they’re gone and then I’m like… why wasn’t I thankful when I should have been.
Thanksgiving, thank you for reminding me to appreciate family, football and food. But most of all, thank you for reminding me that being grateful brings me closer to Jesus.
Dear Black Friday, now that I realize I’m not as thankful as I should be, I’m going to get only what I need for Christmas gifts and pretend like I haven’t been waiting for you all year long. Black Friday, I am going to remember that Jesus is greater than anything I don’t already have.
Dear Cyber Monday, I’ve held my out on Black Friday and the algorithms know it, and yes, I do see and feel your pressure. Again, going to only get what I need. Because what I’m waiting for is Giving Tuesday.
Dear Giving Tuesday, I am sorry that you haven’t been on my mind all year. I’m sorry that I treat your appeals I get in the mail like junk mail and hang onto the Black Friday and Cyber Monday catalogs. Things are so backwards and I’ve forgotten what is meaningful. If only you, Giving Tuesday, were before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I might have money left for you …
Deuteronomy 15:9 “Rather … you must open your hand and lend him sufficient for whatever he needs.”
Friends, thank you for remembering The Journey in your giving this season. Proverbs 11:25 says he who satisfies others shall himself be satisfied. I say, no matter where you go to be satisfied, may God bless you. 883thejourney.org.
I’m general manager, Danae Songy.
