Manager’s Memo 7-20-20
My baby sister came to visit recently. She was on Southwest, so in and out of Love Field. That meant I got to drive the lovely stretch of highway between Cleburne and Dallas, known as the Highway 67 / I-35E construction war zone. I’m glad I don’t drive through it every day. We left the house three hours early for her 2:40 departure. It was a good thing, but we made her flight on time. Going home w ... Read More30June

Manager’s Memo 6-27-20
Our lives are a result of the choices we make every day. Our culture, the society we live in, is the result of the choices we make together. Our government, from school boards to Washington, DC, is the result of those collective choices. There are many influences on the daily choices we make. As a follower of the Carpenter, I am influenced by commands like “Thou shalt have no other gods befo ... Read More11June

Manager’s Memo 6-10-20
I’ve come to believe one of the primary tools in the Devil’s toolbox is division. He used it in heaven and pulled away one-third of the angels. He used it in the Garden of Eden and divided us from God. He used it in the first family, and a brother died at the hands of his brother. He used it to divide Isaac and Ishmail, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and his brothers. He’s still using it to great effect w ... Read More04June

Manager’s Memo 6-1-20
Forgive me, but this a long one. There is no easy way to say all that is on my heart. I have been wrestling with this for several days now. And Paul’s counsel in Ephesians is why. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” I learned long ago that words have power; power ... Manager’s Memo 5-15-20
When we moved to Texas ten years ago, my oldest son was finishing up college. He was living in an apartment off campus with friends. He came home the weekend before the moving van arrived to carry our stuff east to pack up his bedroom and tell us what he wanted to do with his stuff. When it came time to leave Sunday, he was slow getting his truck packed. He kept disappearing as I carried stuff out ... Read More25April

Manager’s Memo 4-22-20
For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order ... Read More18March

Manager’s Memo 3-18-20
As head janitor, I have learned God sometimes has an answer all ready for me when I ask the question. Thank you for your feedback. There was a lot of it. And overwhelmingly, more than 95%, the response was be careful, but carry on. So here is what we are planning, barring a sudden and tumultuous change in our current situation. We are going to hold on to our Sharathon schedule, but in a highly mod ... Read More14March

Manager’s Memo 3-13-20
I’m the head janitor here at the Journey. I’ve been a head janitor for much of my professional life at one organization or another. Being head janitor means you get to think about tomorrow and the next day and the next month and the next year, instead of just being focused on the details of what happens today. I wrestle with that thinking about tomorrow escalating to worrying about tomorrow, and t ... Read More11March

Manager’s Memo 2-28-20
The spring rains have begun. Temperatures are growing warmer and days are growing longer. My lawn is starting to green up and needs to be mowed. And Wanda is beginning to make noise about plants and flowers for the yard. Spring is upon us. If you are new to the Journey family, you should know the arrival of spring also means the coming of our Spring Sharathon. I’m sure you realize, raising money i ... Read More12February
